Resumo: This thesis aims to understand why the discursive intelligibility of Pope Francis suggests the absence of ideological consensus within the ecclesial environment, leading to a polarized hermeneutic struggle between (con)divergent interpretations. Pope Francis has been one of the prominent voices in contemporary times advocating for environmental protection and the safeguarding of the planet, which he refers to as the “common home”. This is a subject close to Pope Francis's heart, as he seeks to engage in dialogue with all of humanity with the goal of enlisting everyone in environmental defense. However, there exists a Christian doxa that not only diverges from Pope Francis's discourses but also challenges the discursive authority of the Pontiff in an argumentative exchange between proponents and opponents. In this context, this research examines the primary speeches of Pope Francis regarding ecological issues, connecting them with other theoretical frameworks that aid in understanding the process of polarization within the ecclesial environment. To achieve this, the initial step involves tracing the path taken by the Church on the topic of ecology and how it has been addressed over time. This is followed by an in-depth analysis of Pope Francis's discourses on ecological issues, ultimately seeking to comprehend his ecological advocacy in (con)divergent communicative processes
