Resumo: |
This research investigates the rise of the concept environmental sustainability and how the topic has been dealt with by the Brazilian media over the years. This dissertation aims at working on the topic based on two approaches: journalistic and advertising-oriented. This paper started through the historical collection of the environmental sustainability topic from its origin all the way to the current stage of discussion having the event Rio+20 held in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012 as the last milestone. The timeline will be construed over various events and forums which took place all over the world since 1987 once the Brundtland Report was drafted, as it is viewed as a major document in environment discussions. The theoretical foundation which underlies this dissertation is based on the concepts of Mass Communication by Harold Lasswell, encompassing the psychology of the masses studies by Le Bon and Sigmund Freud. The theories of communication work as support to understand the marketing strategies used by the journalism industry and by both state-owned and private companies overthe years in mass media. The investigation on communication -be it journalistic or advertising -will be conducted through the understanding of the used discourses. For such analysis, we have found support through the review of Marilena Chaui when the Competent Discourse and its characteristics are addressed. Marshall McLuhan s perspective will contribute to the analyses of the spread of environmental sustainability in the information technology age. The corpus of the research is comprised of articles from magazine Vejaand newspaper Folha de São Paulothrough available collection in electronic format. The choice of both periodicals was due to their expressive placement and reach as well as their significance to the advertising market in Brazil |
