Resumo: From an analysis of the digital society in which we live, it is clear that the volume of digital content and information is growing fast. As a result, it is necessary to seek for better ways to manage our personal and professional information and to organize our everyday activities. The aim of this research is to present an information retrieval method that helps an institution or community to organize and retrieve digital information in an associative way: that is, by enabling the association of personal, technological and institutional contexts with digital files, so that people can retrieve digital information using their own mental associations. To this end, the study involves a communication method called RCPTIA Relating Personal, Technological and Institutional Contexts by Associations. The theoretical underpinning for this method brings together a variety of concepts, such as the biological bases for human understanding of MATURANA and VARELA and the eco-systemic reasoning proposed by MORAES. In relation to knowledge management in organizations, NONAKA and TAKEUCHI, KROGH, ICHIJO, DAVENPORT and PRUSAK, and SVEIBY, also present valuable contributions such as the enabling of context, social and personal interactions, emotional relationships, development of trust, positive environment, common language and knowledge codification. The RCPTIA method is also inspired by important concepts from the communication area, including language as reasoning, language as cognition, hypermedia language, 11 the associative mind and the digital influence in non-linear thinking are also used. Finally, the communication method RCPTIA proposed, presents a dynamic taxonomy that associates personal contexts, institutional contexts and technological contexts with any digital file or internet address. In this way, the method enables users to use their own cognitive systems integrated with document repositories indexing systems in order to retrieve information the same way that it is retrieved by their own mind
