Resumo: Brazilian electronic government development indicators Abstract The use of information technology in public administration has several functions. The most known and spread internationally are the possibilities for its use as a vehicle for the provision of online services and spread of a variety of information about the activities of the public sector through government portals. In Brazil, the concept of "e-government", "e-gov" or "e-government" is already widely known, and is associated with the provision of services to citizens via the Internet. However, we perceive a gap between the literature on the subject, which as a rule, is quite optimistic about its potential and the results presented in the different indicators that address the issue, which commonly show a low degree of development of electronic government programs, especially the Brazilian. In this sense, this paper, at first, made a documentary research of indicators of UN reports (United Nations), in the period between 2002 and 2014. After this analysis, we made a comparative study of the E-Government Development Index (EGDI) and the policies of the Brazilian e-government program over the stated period. Finally, it appears that the Brazilian e-government program does not fully fulfills its role as a significant channel of communication with the citizen
