Recent reviews on parental training in ASD indicate that there is (1) high social relevance to the topic, (2) difficulty in grouping studies for analysis, and (3) a lack of information on the methods impacting the analysis of their efficiency. Given the social relevance of the topic in question, categorizations were conducted using two recent literatures to provide a methodological analysis of the efficiency and effectiveness of parental training in ASD. For this purpose, 22 reviews on the topic with publication date after 2016 were used as sources of article identification. Initially, 132 primary articles were identified; 68 of them were selected for methodological analysis and, finally, 12 were selected for the analysis of efficiency and effectiveness. It was identified that there is still a low quality in the methodological descriptions. However, the analysis procedure proposed here can be used in the future by authors as a checklist to describe their articles on parental training in ASD. Of the 12 articles with sufficient methodological information, all of them proved to be effective for parental training. It was not always possible to evaluate the efficiency of the articles due to the lack of description of the training time. It appears that BST is the most used practice in parent training on ASD, regardless of the sub-area of interest. Technological alternatives are identified as promising practices |
