Resumo: This dissertation´s theme is the insertion of Social Work in Professional Education, recognizing the historical and dialectical duality between market and emancipatory education. The objective is to reflect on the educational and emancipatory action of Social Work, considering the relationship established between work and this format of education. In this sense, the first two chapters seek to identify the relationship between work, education and sociability; the main historical elements of professional education; theoretical references to discuss education and hegemony; and the trajectory of Social Work in this field, mainly regarding the educational action of the profession. The third and final chapter presents the results of bibliographical research, used as a privileged methodological source, through productions published in the magazines “Serviço Social & Sociedade” (numbers 1 to 146) and in theses and dissertations that presented in the title the theme “dimension educational”, in the database of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel. The research made it possible to identify the need for the professional category to look into the topic, understanding the importance of consolidating a direction for emancipatory education in Social Work.
