Resumo: The master thesis presented aims to understand the meanings of being a user of Social Assistance and the study of how access to this social policy affects the lives of some individuals. It is justified by the need to be considered in the study of the policy, besides the analysis of scholars and professionals, as it has come to its users, as they feel and how life is affected by it, from expressions of their own, after all, they are who live in their daily lives. For this, it was considered the impacts of this a policy in the material conditions of life of individuals and, the subjective dimension that involves the entire process of accessing social-assistance services. It broke the understanding of subjectivity as a process in permanent constitution from the social relations and of the integration of cognitive and affective, with no antagonism between affect and thought. This perspective aims to break the opposition between objectivity and subjectivity, considering the whole person. To achieve the proposed objectives, it was performed a qualitative study involving six users of Social Assistance in the Piracicaba/Sao Paulo City. For these individuals, the Social Assistance is part of the daily lives and it affects them in a positive way. It ensures material resources required to the preservation of their lives and it offers opportunities to learn and live together, which results in growth and improvement of life. However, the access is felt in almost all situations, as a favor received, not being stimulated in their spaces, neither in the exercise participation nor in the assertion of rights. By expressing the sense of access to social assistance policy, the subjects also made major assessments about it and despite the life marked by material deprivation, they point to the needs that go beyond survival. They want affection, appreciation, relationships of equality, growth, freedom and happiness, and the Social Assistance also consider this dimension in the development of their actions
