Resumo: This work aims to investigate the trajectory of formation and professionalization of egressed students from the teaching formation course offered by CEFAM (Centro Específico de Formação e Aperfeiçoamento para o Magistério Specific Center of Formation and Improvement of Teaching Skills), of the city of São Paulo in the neighborhood of São Miguel Paulista, from 1997 to 2005, after the promulgation of LDBN 9394/96. Data were collected from 2006 to 2007, by means of procedures which included: a) research and survey of existing registers in the Regional Bureau of Teaching East 2, where all the documents of the Teaching Unit that used to offer the CEFAM course were; b) reading and analysis of documents; and c) dispatch of questionnaires to the egressed students from CEFAM, located by means of e-mail (group lists), or by means of internal communication among the schools, by mailing and by personal and direct contact with and among the egressed students. From the 120 egressed students located, just 71 questionnaires were returned, properly answered. The data collected were organized in synthesis charts that gathered the collected information and were analyzed according to national and foreign authors that approached the theme of teachers formation and professionalization and provided the theoretical support to the research: Nóvoa, Garcia, Enguita, Ozga & Lawn, Apple, Huberman, Marin, Giovanni, Guarnieri, among others. The results obtained have not allowed affirming that the formation received by those egressed students has been better than the one offered by other courses that also existed at that time. Even with the mainly positive references supplied by egressed students from CEFAM of São Miguel Paulista according to the formation received and to their own professional trajectory, and even with the evidence that most of the students continued their academic studies, remaining in the teaching career, or yet, most of the students find themselves in permanent and stable jobs in the municipal and state school systems, being used as the project predicted, that is, in the public school systems it does not seem possible to affirm that the fact of having a degree from CEFAM provides a differentiated status to those egressed students
