This research examines reading classes as learning and development spaces, and of citizen formation as well. It investigates in particular the teacher this researcher appropriation process of new meanings about (1) the reading process; (2) the teaching-learning of reading and (3) the rules and division of labor in classroom to create a collaborative critical context do reading teaching. This dissertation is in the field of Applied Linguistics and emphasizes the researcher critical role in an Extra-mural Program of teacher education Citizen Action: PAC - coordinated by the Professors Maria Cecília Camargo Magalhães e Fernanda Liberali and, particularly, in the Extension Project coordinated by Professor Magalhães Reading in different Areas LDA - that aims at developing a work with critical reading in diverse knowledge areas of schools context. It is based on the Social-Historical-Cultural Activity Theory - SHCAT, (VYGOTSKY, 1934/2005; LEONT EV, 1977/2006; ENGESTRÖM, 1999). Data were gathered during 7th-grade classroom reading classes, with audio and video taped records and transcribed. They were analyzed to examine the teacher senses about reading and teaching-learning of reading through out the research conduction. Results reveal that there were transformation toward the teacher reading senses, based on LDA discussions on language capacities. However, it also revealed that there were few transformations regarded the rules and work division, since teacher dominated most of the cognitive work in classroom. That is, she still centralized action while the students mostly answered her questions |
