Resumo: The school, generally the first social institution that humans build relationships with after the family has a unique role in the process of establishing homosexuality. In this Social Institution young people have the possibility of experiencing homosexuality and homophobia. This investigation sought to understand and explain the subjective dimension of juvenile male homosexuality in public schools based on the different groups that make up this Social Institution: young people, teachers, management and employees. To this end, we defined four specific objectives, namely: a) to analyze the meanings of young homosexuals about being gay at school; b) analyze teachers’ meanings about young gay people at school; c) analyze the meanings of management regarding young gay people at the school; d) analyze the employees’ meanings about the young gay person at the school. This work is anchored in the materialist historical and dialectical theoretical-methodological framework of Socio-Historical Psychology. We held four group conversations: with young homosexuals; with teachers; with employees and; with the management of a public school in Osasco, a city in the metropolitan region of the city of São Paulo. The conversations of each group were analyzed using the proposal of Core of Meaning, a dialectical movement of analysis. Subsequently, the Core of Meaning were articulated with a view to explaining the Subjective Dimension of juvenile male homosexuality in public schools at which time we highlighted the essential aspects of the phenomenon, such as the meanings attributed to sex/gender; to religious aspects; the political pedagogical project; to intergenerational meetings; to formal and informal education spaces. From this process we highlight that the social contradictions that make up the phenomenon of homosexuality intensify and are articulated with the contradictions specific to the social institution of school. Still, this school, specifically strives to make an anti-homophobic institution. Finally, we affirm that promoting a plural approach to homosexuality can expand the possibilities for young people to recognize themselves and others ensuring that the expression of homosexuality takes place at school in a safe and free way
