Resumo: |
This study aimed to investigate some relations between the choice to engage on cooperative behavior or an individual task and the manipulation of reinforcer magnitudes contingent on the cooperative task and response cost (a gradual increase on response ratio). Four participants, of both sex, with ages between 16 and 24, were paired in two dyads: each participant of a dyad worked simultaneously with the other on one of two computers connected through a network. The experiment lasted for 12 (90 minutes) sessions for one day and 13 for the other. All participants were exposed to the following experimental conditions: a) Forced Cooperation Condition when they could only work cooperatively; b) Forced Individual Condition when they could only work individually, and c) Choice Condition when they could choose to play alone or play with the other person . In the first session, of training, participants were submitted to all three Experimental Conditions; in the following sessions either the Forced Cooperation Condition or the Choice Condition was available. During the training session, the cooperation task was assigned value FR 1 and the magnitude of reinforcement value 4; in the subsequent sessions, the magnitude of reinforcement was increased to 10, 20 and 30. The FR was also increased up to FR11. The programming for the individual task in all sessions was FR 1 and magnitude of reinforcement of value 1. Literature reports on the rupture in the preference to cooperate when FR value was increased were not found on the present study, possibly as a result of the gradual increase on the FR (from 1 to 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 11), as well as the increase in the magnitude of reinforcement. Results showed that all participants chose to cooperate form the onset and remained cooperating until the end of the experiment |
