The aim of this dissertation is to reflect on how illustrated magazines of recent fluency in the daily life of São Paulo are articulated in the construction of the urban imaginary in the early twentieth century. To understand, therefore, from which forces, from what places and from what subjects the disputes occurred. Based on two main axes, the creation of the modern city and its new spaces, this research seeks to discuss the promotion of new customs, rules of urban behavior, attitudes, sexuality and gender roles, as well as their limitations and restrictions. To do so, we chose three illustrated magazines, all important in the period, of great print run and circulation. Each one of them with specific graphic design and political bias that can sometimes converge. They are: A Cigarra, O Parafuso e O Pirralho
