Resumo: |
The central objective of this research is to investigate why people decide to participate in experimental therapeutic procedures that involve risks and a considerable degree of uncertainty. The main argument rests on the fact that in the case of the decision to participate or not these treatments, people negotiate possible ambivalence between hope of a cure or a significant improvement and a wariness of uncertainties and risks within this context . The study was conducted in the unidade de Transplante de Medula Óssea do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto . The site was chosen to be a reference for autologous stem cell transplantation for the treatment of autoimmune diseases in Brazil. To achieve the objectives proposed in the thesis the researcher based in part on different sources of information: observations, interviews, conversations and documents that allowed a discussion on the nodes present in the decision, that is, on the aspects involved in the decision of participation in the clinical trial with bone marrow transplantation |
