Resumo: The elaboration of this thesis, the objective and source of study was the importance of the Credit Union as an unprecedented agent for social inclusion. In this environment, an analysis and case study of the Cooperative Credit System (SICREDI) – Central Sicredi – South/Southeast was prepared. The research was carried out at SICREDI Serrana RS/ES – Cooperativa de Credito SICREDI SERRANA RS/ES, located in the Serra Gaúcha and Vale do Caí region. The objective was to analyze SICREDI Serrana RS/ES as an agent for social inclusion, demonstrating the importance of financing a home or an enterprise for members of less favored social classes. To this end, it was necessary to demonstrate the differences between financial institutions and credit unions, the guiding principles of credit unions and the verification of the occurrence of the practice of promoting the activities of cooperative members regarding the use of credit assistance and provision of banking services. For that, the theoretical approach of cooperativism, credit; using qualitative research, through literature review, document analysis and interviews. From the documents and reports of cooperative members through a semi-structured questionnaire, in order to identify whether the associate of SICREDI Serrana RS/ES uses low interest loans and, if these, were supported in terms of new projects and ventures idealized for social inclusion. The results obtained will be demonstrating the economic and financial advantages for the cooperative and cooperative members, thus contributing as an agent for social inclusion and regional social development
