Resumo: |
During the XIX century, the inhabitants of Belém (Pará) continued with the construction of the city amid the living with the waters. Therefore, the history of Belém is also the history of controlling this element, which implicated in knowing and organizing by different ways, the many present waters since the constitution of knowledges about the location thereof, until the relative options to their use. The present thesis aims to show the social history of water in Belém of Pará during the XIX century, from the inventory and testament studies, chief reports, journalistic texts, among other documents. In this sense, it was considered that the uses of waters maintained connections with ways of thinking related with the ideas of nature, civilization and with the recurrence to an important material production. The subjects focused are diverse, as diverse, also, the ethnicity, social condition, gender, nationality and naturally thereof, evoking discussions about delineated sensibilities regarding to the objects and/or resources that were relevant to the work with water. In the proposed interregnum, the appropriation process of waters occurred by some continuities of proceedings, that is, the waters used by many residents in Belém were collected outside their habitations and buildings in general, not rarely in wells. Around the public areas of the city, they were transported, entering inside the houses through the use of casks, pots, pitchers, bowls and other recipients, in a reproduction of actions, which were indispensable to the city life. On the other hand, the relation process of the inhabitants of Belém with the waters also passed through changes, connected to the ways of thinking the live in a city that housed diverse residents, who should observe rules of progress and civilization. Whence, the crescent recurrence to the plumbings, taps, lavatories, latrines, among others. In this perspective, the water was organized according invisibility principles, coursing streets and buildings through the plumbings, flooding through the taps in consonance to the intervention of each resident, and being drained through an specific canalization system. But that was not a definitely concluded process. Amid the expansion of the city, during the XX century and the first decade of XXI, many are the inhabitants of Belém, who were reached by the lack of water and involved with the opening of wells and uses of buckets, cans, bowls, pots and pitchers |
