The goal of the present work is to search and to know the forms (ways) that didactic books deal with literary texts based on the policies established on Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (National Curricular Pattern PCN). Our impelling question is: How the literary text, present in the educational books, perform as a support in the reader s formation? In order to achieve our goal, we analysed five educational book series, one of them was done before PCN and the other four were done af ter PCN. In chapter I, we present some essential aspects, such as the function of literature in the individual s formation process. We also present a little of the reading history in the school, as wel l as aspects of the literature s relevance in PCN. In chapter II, the problem of the presence of literary text is ef fectively exposed, through the analysis of our corpus, the f ive series, become evident the relat ionship between the approaches before and after PCN. The established elements for the analysis were the survey of all texts, the observation of gebder diversity, authors and works, and the quality of the proposal for reading practice. In chapter I II, we discuss about questions of literary theory, reading and literacy.
