Resumo: Introduction: This study is part of the research line Text and discourse in oral and written modalities of the Postgraduate Studies Program in Portuguese Language at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP) and has as its study theme the relationship between copyediting and retextualization from a socio-cognitive interactional perspective of language. The theoretical basis is Textual Linguistics. Objectives: The objective is to show how retextualization operations, articulated to the principles of textuality, can support the work of the copyeditor, expanding their role. Additionally, the aim is to analyze how written-written retextualization is carried out through operations of elimination, insertion, reformulation, and substitution, as well as through the principles of textuality, highlighting, through the comparison of fragments that make up the corpus, the effects of meaning that some changes provoke. To achieve the proposed objectives, some of these operations in the retextualization process of a scientific article are described. Material and Methods: The corpus of the work consists of two parts: the original version of the scientific article "The Madeira River hydroelectric plants and the socio-environmental impacts of electrification in Brazil," published in the magazine Ciência Hoje in 2009, and its retextualized version. The method is comparative: the original version of the author is compared to the final version to observe the retextualization operations employed in the copyediting process. Result: At the end of the analysis, the hypothesis that the use of retextualization operations, combined with the principles of textuality, is an important support for the practice of copyediting is confirmed. This reveals that the changes made by the copyeditor go beyond grammatical limits, linguistic materiality, resulting in a more effective text from a communicational point of view
