Resumo: Like other research in the academic area, the text in question is part of a personal concern that culminated in a research paper. Thus, after years of working in public schools - state and local - I realized that the students studying in Secondary School did not know the concepts related to the discipline and such lack of knowledge was the motivation for me to undertake the research cited. However, you can point to the "failure" of such learning, it is necessary that you know the process of teaching the discipline of geography in elementary school, considering this cycle is the beginning of geographic literacy. We understand that geography has a contribution to make in the early grades: the geographically literate, developing in the student the ability to read, understand, analyze, observe, question the environment, since the student must act as citizens in contemporary society. However, because when they start elementary school II fail to act on the content already taught? Based on this principle, the objective of the research is to analyze the syllabus of geography in elementary school and the importance of this subject in the school curriculum and, therefore, has as a locus schools in the Municipality of Praia Grande, São Paulo To this end, a cut will be made with students in the fourth and fifth years, aiming at a qualitative research whose primary instruments are questionnaires, documentary analysis and categorization of emerging data. Authors like Straforini (2004), Vasconcellos (2000), Callai (1995) base the opening chapter which will focus on the construction planning of Geography in the Municipality of Praia Grande and the educational context of the same in the classroom
