Resumo: The research presented here is intended to investigate the use that the subjects make the technologies and how this use contributes to the development of a consciousness of belonging to a community and to build an identity. The object of our research are the uses that the subjects, entered into multicultural spaces - distant time and space of their culture of origin - make of the media and their technological advances to build a sense of belonging to a group or social space. The work and research focusing on the relationship between Communication and Culture, mostly address the appropriation and reinterpretation that the media makes of popular culture and our proposal seeks an investigation in the opposite direction, ie, proposes to understand how individuals appropriate the media - and their interfaces and convergences. As corpus, we set to work with four groups of immigrants: gauchos and northeastern living in São Paulo and Brazilian and Nicaraguans living in Costa Rica. This choice shows relevant by addressing a growing reality of groups of subjects moving from their places of origin to live and work in large multicultural centers. The objectives of the research are to investigate how and to what extent the use of new communication technologies helps these guys to articulate and build a sense of belonging. The study is characterized as applied research, descriptive, with quantitative and qualitative approach, using the inductive method and the comparative study between the groups, from the interviews and questionnaires based on sampling methodology. Concepts such as identity (ORTIZ, 2003), tradition (Bahbah, 1998) and modernity (Hall, 1999) are associated with the convergence of ideas (Jenkins, 2009), miscegenation (PINHEIRO, 2009), crop the edges (FERREIRA, 2010) and sense of belonging (SANDOVAL-GARCÍA, 2008) to form the theoretical framework that leads to data analysis in dialogue with theories. The hypothesis of the research is that the media has, yes, influence and participation in the construction process "identities" and the sense of belonging and a conclusion different from that proposed in the initial project, is that not the conventional media (radio TV, newspaper print) the most used in the groups studied, but new technologies and applications for mobile phones and Smartphone those that contribute most to the approach of individuals. We do not claim, therefore, the only positive aspects of technological developments, once we understand, by several studies in the area, the damage that uncontrolled use of the media and its new technologies bring to interpersonal relationships. Just highlight the favorable contributions relating to the subject in this research
