Resumo: |
This dissertation entitled "Study of symmetry from geometric patterns of “panarias”: Research and ethnomathematics interventions for classroom", articulates the African art of “Cabo Verde” fabrics and the teaching of mathematics, based in orthogonal symmetry, and study an alternative for the teaching and learning of this mathematical school theme for students from vulnerable neighborhoods mainly "Afro-descendant". The objective is to change a formal classroom in an environment in which scientific knowledge of formal education is worked through African cultural practices. This research is about African culture and mathematics teaching mode with qualitative approach in classroom through semi-structured interviews and pedagogical actions. Ethnomathematics was chosen as theoretical basis, with theoretical points of cultural identity. The research was motivated by the low rate of students learning mathematical contents, especially in geometry, in a Municipal Elementary School in São Paulo, where the researcher teaches. The question that guides the research is: What potential geometric patterns of “panarias Cabo-verdianas” can contribute to the learning of orthogonal symmetry in a seventh-grade mathematics classroom in an elementary school? There are four ways for that: 1. Study “Cabo Verde” culture, “panaria” elements. 2- Research in “Cabo Verde” interviewing artisans and working with a teacher who uses the geometric patterns in the school with the purposes of teaching arts. 3- Adapting methods used by the teacher and development of work plan to the classroom in Brazil. 4- The application of the method developed in the classroom and its evaluation. Over the development of the activities proposed and analyzes made, there are evidence that our objectives have been achieved. There was a dialogue with African culture, especially with “Cabo-verdiana” culture. The students appear to have appropriated the construct "axis of symmetry", fundamental to understand the concept of axis of symmetry. They construct and/or rebuild concepts of geometry by looking and constructing symmetrical figures, especially the concepts related to triangles and regular quadrilaterals |
