Resumo: |
The Bill on Religious Education (nº 9475/1997) has changed the reality of religious education found on the current National Law on Education (Lei de Diretrizes e Base da Educação Nacional LDBEN, nº 9394/1996). The aforementioned Bill enacts new rules in which religious education becomes an integral part of elementary school education. The impact of this on the Brazilian educational system cannot be overlooked. Religious Education as a school discipline brings expressive contributions to the education of children and their notions of citizenship, especially in a religiously and culturally multifaceted society. Although legally instituted as part of the national educational system, there are some agencies struggling to ban this discipline from the schools. This is a relevant issue, since the school context should be the ideal place where religious education meets (in a pedagogically suitable environment) its main public for an open-minded discussion of religious contents and religious diversity. Having the support of the National Law on Education (Lei de Diretrizes e Base da Educação Nacional) as its mainstay, this work aims at investigating the current situation of this discipline in the city and district of Mogi Guaçu/SP, in order to make an inquire of its real promotion or inhibition in the specific educational context of Mogi Guaçu district |
