Resumo: |
The aim of this study was to verify whether the population of the Guarulhos city, in Sao Paulo State, is identified with the project to revitalize the city center initiated by the city in the decade of 2000. The methodology that was used in exploratory research is the design document in field studies and semi-structured interviews. From the survey data it was possible to analyze the symbolic changes promoted by the city government since the creation of the revitalization project in 2002 and the perception of people who live in Guarulhos in relation to this project of consolidating a new central public space facing to the interests of international capital and the creation of a global city and to investigate the reinterpretation of this area through the eyes of the population after its modification, and investigate their sense of belonging to it. Therefore, it was necessary to explore the history of the city, the concept of identity, the formation of "city-goods" and urban entrepreneurialism. To carry out the semi-structured interviews were used icons (pictures) for the location and identification of witnesses in relation to the changes experienced by the central public space of Guarulhos city |
