Resumo: This study aims at analyzing the relation between youth and lethal violence under the Social Psychology perspective, taking into consideration that young people are the major victims and authors of the country s lethal violence. To achieve this objective, it was necessary to consider two aspects: in one hand, youth s characteristics, demands and needs and, on the other, how violence, so valued and disseminated in our society, can be used by this youth as a way to live their experiences and obtain, for instance, some visibility. This Social Psychology perspective dialogues with Silvia Lane s position that sustains that transformation is originated by the condition s equality, and not by the omission of the differences. This study highlights the youth naturalized relation with lethal violence. There were carried out interviews with five professionals from non-governmental institutions recognized by their work with projects involving young people in violent context. The relationship between youth and violence is dangerous and ideological, established to sustain this unfair and unequal social order in the cities circulation, opportunities, and in the economic, social and cultural organization. In order to understand better this scenario, it is important to question the emancipatory power of our youth policies and also understand to which extent are we engaging creative and transforming youth energy in outcomes that serve only the interests of an unequal society. To sum up, as the professionals of the participant institutions, it is believed that young people are not violent beings by nature, neither belong to a position of passive victim; on the contrary, they are potential beings that are capable of transforming their living reality both in macro and micro social relations
