Resumo: |
This thesis is a linguistic-discursive study of short stories by João Antônio and it is linked to the line of research Text and speech in the oral and written modalities, of the Postgraduate Studies in Portuguese Language Program at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. In order to develop this study, we established the following research question: How does João Antonio rely upon proverbs and clichés, as well as figures of speech to give expression to the characters' voice in the interactional process? This question led us to define the following general objective: to study the relationship between language and society in prose of João Antônio. The specific objectives are to: identify, describe and analyze the linguistic-discursive elements present in the work of João Antônio, in the characterization of the characters; verify the function of the linguistic-discursive resources in the interaction between the characters; analyze the persuasive strategies present in the proverbs and popular expressions that composes the short stories of the author that we present. The theoretical contribution that supports us is made by Maingueneau (2013), Obelkevich (1997), Preti (2004, 1977, 2002), Cascudo (2012), Pinto (2003), Almeida (2009), Marcuschi (2001), Nóbrega (2008) and Brait (1999). The corpus is composed of nine short stories written by João Antônio, namely: Busca, Afinação da arte de chutar tampinhas, Fujie, Retalhos de fome numa tarde de G.C, Natal na cafua, Frio, Visita, Meninão do Caixote, Malagueta, Perus e Bacanaço. The results obtained indicate that the proverbs, clichés and popular expressions are at the service of the interactional dynamics between the characters, giving them voice authority and argumentative force |
