Resumo: This research aimed at (1) describing and interpreting the phenomenon of producing texts in Portuguese, lived by Brazilian High School students who used paper and the digital context as writing interfaces; and (2) investigating how referential cohesive features undertaken by pronominal substitution emerged in school pieces of writing produced by these students when using paper and blog as interfaces to compose texts in Portuguese. In order to reach these objectives, this research was grounded on the concepts of text and textuality (Beaugrande & Dressler, 1981; Bronckart, 1999; Costa Val, 2006; Fávero, 1995; Koch & Travaglia, 2003; Maingueneau, 2004; Schmidt, 1978; Valente, 2001), on aspects related to writing (escrita (Cassany, 2005; Teberosky & Tolchinsky, 2001; Suassuna,2002; Garcez,1998; Crystal, 2005; Barreto, 1994; Maturana e Varela,1990; Apel, 1996; Carvalho, 2001), and on the notion of blog as interface, as well as on its utilization for educational purposes (Komesu, 2005; Primo, 2005; Ganhão, 2004; Schittine, 2004; Lara, 2005; Oliveira, 2006; Orihuela, 2006). The methodological approach chosen was the hermeneutic-phenomenological one (van Manen, 1990; Freire, 2007). The research was conducted in a private school in São Paulo, and focused on 10 students enrolled in the third year of the high school level. The paper and blog samples collected throughout the research period were interpreted in qualitative terms which resulted both from the investigation of cohesive features and from the thematic identification (van Manen, 1990) undertook through the refinement and meaning-making processes (Freire, 2007), consolidated by the validation cycle (van Manen, 1990). The research results revealed that the written production focused on paper as interface had a thematic structure which was distinct from the one focused on blog as interface, thus indicating the existence of two phenomena of living experience. However, in spite of such a differentiation, the referential cohesive features undertaken by pronominal substitution were extremely similar, thus revealing that the anaphoric process occurred in the same way, regardless of the interface. Such results may impact on the way writing is perceived and taught as well as on the definition of future research topics addressing the mother tongue written process
