Purpose: to describe the ocorrence of vocal,orofacial functions and auditive in aged people, considering sex and age aud to correlate that with Life Quality aspects.Method: there were chooseri 55 persons of aged people associations, from Taubaté city, in São Paulo state. Two protocols were used: The WHOQOL-Bref (1995), that evaluates Life Quality with numerical index 1 to 5, from lesser to higher satisfaction grade; and another protocol that was applied to evaluate voice, orofacial functions and hearing. It was answered according numerical frequency 0 when it was not answered, 1 for no disturbes, 2 for some disturbes and 3 for constant disturbes. Data were analysed by descritive method by statistical tests of Mann- Whitney and Swalysis of Correlation of Sperrman, by statistical Package for Social Sciences with 5% of significance. Results: was constituted by 15 men(27,07%) and 40 women (72,73%) with 68,9 mean age (age band between 60 and 80 years old). About Life Quality, aged people considered that of good quality (61,82%), with different grades being satisfied with their sanity (67,27%), althoug they have needed medical assistance in different frequency (61,82%). By another way, they claimed about limited vigour for work-a-day (43,64%); lack of money for necessities (58,18%); lack of information (45,45%), lack of sexual life (43,64%).About voice, aged people answered no claim to talking at phone and working (87,27%) and also no social difficulty related to voice (89,09%). Considering orofacial functions, people affirmed not to feel pain in chewring (87,27%), no noise in talking (89,09%), no perception about articulation damaging speaking (83,64%), no difficulty in speaking output (78,18%) nor to chewring (65,45%). Also, they don t masticate with open mouth (87,27%). More than half of them (54,55%) described difficult to listening; most of them didn t demand about listening at phone (76,36%) or difficulties in personal relationships because of hearing (85,45%). They denied that auditive problems could to limit them to go out of home (90,91%), or to be alone (89,09%), or listen less television or radio than they would like to (90,91%). Conclusion: It was concluded that most of aged people was satisfied with their quality of life. They didn t describe voice, orofacial functions and auditive disturbes; considering sex, women reported more complaints than men; mainly orofacial functions about noises and poor adaptation of dental prothesis; in respect to age, no difference was observed about the questioned aspects phonoaudiological alterations did not affect satisfaction of aged people with quality of life |
