Resumo: It is believed that the Human Rights Education (HRE) may contribute to the education of individuals aware of their rights, strengthening democratic relations. Thus, this investigation, inserted in the research line “Public Policies and Educational and Curricular Reforms” from the Graduate Program in Education: Curriculum of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP), and related to investigations developed by the Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisa em Justiça Curricular (GEPEJUC) [Group of studies and research in curricular justice], accredited by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), led by Professor Branca Jurema Ponce, PhD, had as object the presence of the HRE in the Municipal Education Network of São Paulo – RMESP (2013-2016). The general objective was to resume the actions carried out by the Municipal Secretariat of Education of São Paulo (SMESP) for the promotion of the HRE in the schools of the Municipal Education Network of São Paulo during Haddad administration (2013-2016), in order to demonstrate the importance of this initiative. This was due to the following actions: a) Municipal Human Rights Education Award in partnership with the Municipal Department of Human Rights and Citizenship; b) Teacher training conducted by the Pedagogical Division of the Regional Board of Education of Itaquera-SP; c) Booklets “Respeitar é preciso” [Respecting is necessary]. In order to analyze how actions developed by SMESP contributed to the promotion of the HRE in schools of the Municipal Education Network, studies related to the theme were conducted as well as a historical rescue of the HRE. So as to illuminate the object of study, the actions developed for promoting the HRE in RMESP were identified and analyzed, through documents and interviews. It was a qualitative research, based on Bardin (2016) and Chizzotti (2014) regarding content analysis. As theoretical references, on the trajectory of Human Rights, this research counted on studies performed by Comparato (2003), Hunt (2012) and Viola (2010); about human rights and democracy, on Santos (2014, 2018); regarding public policies on HRE, on Benevides (2007), Candau (2007), Silva (2010), Tuvilla Rayo (2004), and on the National Guidelines for Human Rights Education (BRASIL, 2012b); in relation to Curricular Justice, on Franco (2018), Neri (2018), Ponce (2018), Ponce and Araújo (2019), Ponce and Neri (2017) and Torres Santomé (2013). It is expected that this research, as it recognizes the importance of the HRE at RMESP schools, will stimulate new actions in this direction and foster a school curriculum based on the conception of Curricular Justice
