The present work aims to analyze the lifestyle of the poor of Santos, São Paulo, during the last decade of the nineteenth century. For this purpose, we use the documentation produced by the Posto de Saúde, the Delegacia de Polícia and the Registro de Indústria e Profissão, all of these produced and accumulated by the Municipality of Santos. Through these established ideas about the survival mechanisms created by the people who lived or trade activities related to the provision of services in the early years of the institution of the republican regime in Brazil.
