Resumo: This dissertation is part of the research line “Reading, writing and teaching Portuguese language”, within the Postgraduate Program at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), and deals with multimodality from the perspective of Linguistic Education. Multimodality consists of the use of multiple modes of communication (written texts, images, sounds, gestures, among others) to contribute to the construction of meaning. Due to the low results in reading, obtained by Brazilian students in national and international estimates, the study seeks to find ways to favor the practice of promoting reading in the contemporary school context, through the textual genre digital news, enabling reflection and reflexive teaching proposals-learning. To this end, the research brings together concepts and methodologies of language education, textual genres, reading and textual linguistics, with the aim of understanding these concepts and methodological practices for Portuguese classes in high school; seeks to understand the importance of textual genres; to analyze the meaning of multimodality for the global understanding of digital texts, as well as to encourage reading practice. At the end, a didactic sequence is presented, guided by language education, which guides this research. In short, the dissertation explores multimodality as an approach that aims to enrich Portuguese language teaching in high school, using different modes of communication to help build meaning and develop students' linguistic and communicative skills
