Resumo: |
The aim of the present essay is to know more about psychologists professional practice developed in São Paulo State prison system, an explorative research, given the very little amount of studies concerning the subject-matter published throughout the last seventeen years. We conducted our research using different methods, which provided the search, complement and data and information s crossing from the following sources: 1) legal and official documents research and analysis , distinguishing Brazilian national, and São Paulo s prison system, and psychologists functions in the system according to current legislation; 2) review of scientific literature, keeping up with professionals regional meetings promoted by psychological societies and contacting related institutions; 3) questionnaires and personal interviews involving psychologists themselves, both male and female, working in São Paulo s prison system, considering those environments sentences are carried out - including residential and non residential settings combined, and residential model only, as well as provisory detention -, and their prison unities respectively. As a finding, we note a gradual, continuous and defiant professional practice construction regarding psychologists in São Paulo s prison system, being influenced and leaded by several actors involved with the construction itself and like references for psychology s application in this particular field. This practice shows itself through its functions, aims and attention psychologists pay to different persons on justice and prison systems. Knowing psychologists professional practice and their actual questions about it, point us a chance to reflect and unveil Psychology s contribution, considering an inequable social and economic context that excludes, marked by a selective system of security, justice and punishment |
