Resumo: The main scope of this work was to set forth and analyze the relations between the incidence of diseases related to public health and social inequities. The study was carried out in Araçatuba/SP in the following districts: Nova Iorque, Vila Mendonça and the triple district São José/Esequiel Barbosa/Mão Divina, investigating the topography of their social differences. The sociological characterization of the space analyzed, defined them as the most characteristic districts in the city due to their differences and specificities, keeping the diversity of the city, in order to set forth this relation between the parameters of social inequality and diseases, which deserve the attention of public heath policies. This work research was based on the data collected by PROGRAMA DE SAÚDE DA FAMÍLIA (PSF) (Family Health Program), which incorporates and reasserts the basic principles of SISTEMA ÚNICO DE SAÚDE (SUS), which assert the universality, decentrality, integrality, equity and social participation. The data amount and wealthness of this official program was the main reason for its choice as a basic source, in a period of time starting on April 2001 (implementation of the program in the city) up to April 2005 (date of data consolidation of the first annual three months of the program). Unquestionable is the relevance of the topic to be approached, the health as to the social inequity, the political mechanisms of democracy and citizenship, as well as the severe economical struggle in the country and in the region where the city of Araçatuba is located. The analysis of the health topic, which is very valuable from a theorical point of view, shall appreciate in this work, specially the issues related to the articulations among Public Health, State and Civil Society, mainly in the social issues. The research consisted in secondary, regionalized and statistic data provided by PROGRAMA DE SAÚDE DA FAMÍLIA (PSF) (Family Health Program), through teams in charge of the program in Araçatuba on the chosen districts, except for the district of Jardim Nova Iorque where the PSF does not carry out its activities. For this reason, questionnaires were distributed to a group of people who live there, and were the source of the primary data of this research, raising some questions related to the procedures of those people in health and life conditions area. The study allowed us to realize that in the districts whereby the PSF was implemented there was a great transformation in all community, beginning with the discussion of local questions related to health area, but overlapping such area. Through this process of involving the community in extensive discussions, it is possible to transform its members in citizens capable of recognizing themselves and the other individual as right takers and act as political and social entities.
