This dissertation is in the line of research "Reading, Writing and Teaching on the Portuguese Language" of the Post-Graduate of the Portuguese Language Program from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, and has as its theme the description in the work Quarto de despejo – diário de uma favelada, by Carolina Maria de Jesus, and its perspectives of application to the teaching of textual production in the third year of high school, considering the Transversal Contemporary Themes. The research questions that guide this study are: 1) How are the descriptive sequences constituted in the work Quarto de Despejo – diário de uma favealda? 2) What functions do they assume in the construction of the text? and 3) How can the analytical procedures adopted in this study contribute to the teaching of textual production in the third year of high school? To answer these questions, we have as a general objective: to understand the importance of Carolina de Jesus' work in teaching textual production in basic education. The specific objectives are: 1) Identify, describe and analyze the descriptive sequences in the chosen work; 2) Check the functions that these textual sequences play in the text; 3) Reflect on how the adopted theoretical-analytical procedures can contribute to the teaching of textual production in the third year of high school; 4) Elaborate a proposal for a didactic sequence for teaching at that level of training. As for the theoretical contribution, we rely heavily on studies developed in the field of Textual Linguistics, in order to deal with the different conceptions of text and language, according to Fávero and Koch (1998 [1983]), Koch (2020 [2004]), Marcuschi ( 2012 [1983], 2008) and Marquesi (2004), and in studies developed in the field of Textual Analysis of Discourses, to deal with textual sequences, in particular, descriptive ones, according to Adam (2011, 2019), Marquesi (2017, 2018 ), Marquesi et al. (2019) and Marquesi, Elias and Cabral (2017). The corpus is composed of five texts selected from the work Quarto de Despejo – diário de uma. The obtained results reveal that the descriptive textual sequence constitutes an important support for the construction of the argumentative orientation in texts produced by high school students. |
