In the professional field, there is currently a set of practices with and about communication, which aim to maximize the positive effects in the exercise of a work, be it artistic, educational, therapeutic, business or even in the personal sphere. There are some names for this applied activity, among others, communication advice or communication coaching, and different professionals can carry out the proposals. OBJECTIVE: to characterize the professional coach in communication. METHOD: Exploratory research, carried out with 40 subjects, equally divided between speech therapists and psychologists working in the area of coaching. An online questionnaire was applied; the data obtained were tabulated and analyzed descriptively. RESULTS: the research had the participation of speech therapists and psychologists, aged between 26 and 52 years, 13 men and 27 women, with additional training carried out in specialized institutes. There are two main areas of activity: executive coaching in the case of speech therapists and personal coaching in the case of psychologists. CONCLUSION: In the most varied contexts, the practice of coaching has gained greater prominence. 50% of speech therapists and 45% of psychologists recognized a specialty called communication coaching. Although there is no unanimity in these answers, the media and the internet show that professionals are identifying themselves in these terms, which increases the discussion and demands more studies.
