Resumo: In the late 1930s, the Brazilian State created the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Patrimony (IPHAN) with the aim of preserving brazilian material culture. Later, the 1988 Federal Constitution extended IPHAN's operation by incorporating immaterial patrimony. It is considered material or immaterial cultural patrimony every cultural property that is recognized by the social group as a reference of its culture, its history, present in the memory of the people and that is part of everyday life. Since the creation of the National Program of Immaterial Patrimony (PNPI) until March 2018, have been registered forty-one Immaterial Cultural Patrimony of Brazil, among them the paneleiras de Goiabeiras, the object of study of this work. The central problem of this work was based on the following question: The recognition of the Metier of the paneleiras de Goiabeiras as a cultural property of immaterial nature by the IPHAN contributed to the recognition and strengthening of the tradition of the paneleiras, of the social groups involved in the process of production of the clay pan and for the socioeconomic development of the region where the paneleiras are established? The research was carried out through direct observation, analysis of Vitória’s city map, with a look at the neighborhood of Goiabeiras, analysis of documents and cultural records, as well as in - depth interviews with the holders of knowledge. As a result, it was verified that despite the recognition of the Metier of the paneleiras de Goiabeiras as a cultural property of immaterial nature by the IPHAN, the metier is at risk of extinction due to the lack of interest of the descendants to continue the metier, due to the absence of effective public policies that recognize and disseminate the work developed by the community, as well as by the lack of recognition of the Capixaba society of the cultural works developed by their fellow countrymen
