Resumo: |
Recent researches in gender have not taken into account studies on some tasks tradicionally attribute to women, wich we have called female practices . Such practices encompassed a set of traditional knowledge which had conveyed orally for generations. They were secrets held by women which would be found lately recorded into the books, specially in printed books. This work aims to analyze La Chymie Charitable Et Facile, En faveur des Dames, published in 1666. Besides it has been attributed to a woman, Marie Meurdrac, this book was dedicated to the ladies. This little treatise points out to the needs shared by ladies in seeking or improving their knowledge in order to help them in their daily care of body and healing family diseases. From a different perspective usually established in gender studies, this work proposes to appraise female knowledge and practices which were recorded and disseminated in printed book, by tracing its sources, reasons and its settlement. It should be noted that Meurdrac s Chemistry was based on practice, on her long hour work in the laboratory where she produced her own waters , essences, tinctures and medicated salts. However, Meurdrac did not eschew the discussion about matter which would have led to some points of tension among the scholars of that time. Such discussions provide us with the rich mosaic of Chemistry in the Seventeenth Century and they are only outlined in La Chymie Charitable |
