Resumo: The life in group creates in Human beings feelings of belonging and ownership which are essential to secure the continuity of the group. People adopt similar characteristics which identify them from the others, protect and preserve group´s existence. The use of a common language is a trademark of a specific group which guarantee all the functions already mentioned. According to these principals, the essay tend to analyse the slangs present in the daily routine of the Brazilian crew members in order to understand their use not only during the working time but also on their free time which make them a specific and selective group. In order to understand this process, it is necessary to study the use of these slangs by crew members on their working time and free time and after that, a glossary is created based on analysis of crew´s interaction. The importance of this research is due to a lack which exists in the oral language vocabulary studies. People are increasingly looking for a feeling of being part of a specific group in the society so they stop having the impression of being like everybody else. Preti (1984) shows that people tend to deny this impression or even react against it because they refuse it on a linguistic way to the anonymity of big popular mass. Besides, this work represents a particular wish of studying this phenomenon because I have been part of this group for seven years and it is still part of my life. The study of spoken language in everyday life has been developed by Sociolinguistics based on different Sociology studies. According to its principles, Interactional Sociolinguistic studies are the foundation of this essay whose the main object of its studies is the social identity researches and many other new projects about this theme have been produced. The present essay analyses sociolinguistic variation, slang, considering it as an icon of the group created from the men´s interaction in the society. The analysis permit us to classify the crew members into a group due to the interests, values and ideals shared by the members. As a group symbol, the slangs become an icon followed by all the members such as a standard. In addition, the slangs are cryptologic symbols responsible for a secret and restrict communication, only accessible for the members. Besides, it is easy to identify the influence of the jargons in the creation of the slangs. The change in meaning by metaphoric process, the use of foreign languages and changes in word formation contribute for this creation. Finally, it is notable that the use of the slangs is not only a rule followed by the group members, but also s status symbol for all of them
