Resumo: |
Voting, regarded as a cornerstone of democracy, is the way of expressing the popular will and exercising its sovereignty by means of citizen representation within government agencies. Given its importance within representative democracies, understanding voter behavior has become one of the greatest challenges for the field of political science. During the mid-twentieth century, the first theoretical frameworks emerged in the United States of America, based on distinct epistemological foundations, thereby establishing the paradigms of electoral behavior within the sociological, economic and psychosocial schools of thought, that grounded our theoretical basis. The objetive of this research was to structure a behavioral model that efficientlly captures the current sociopolitical reality of brazilian voters, encompassing their socioeconomic characteristics, such as education and income, as well as political and partisan culture. Empirical analysis used surveys sourced from the Cesop database, selecting election pools conducted by ESEB right after the 2018 and 2022 elections. From May to October 2022, a longitudinal qualitative research was conducted, focusing on undecided voters, in order to identify the impact of short-term events on the electoral choices of these voters, within their respective social contexts, and considering the role of political awareness as a mediating fator. Unlike the psychosocial model of the University of Michigan, our model assigns to the political awareness the central position in mediating proximal forces. Moreover, the model highlights the relevance of media channels in shaping the political flow, encompassing contemporary platforms of social interaction |
