Resumo: Nowadays, companies are faced with a globalized market that is characterized by constant changes that require new knowledge and technologies. For this reason, it is important to study organizational strategies that determine competitive advantages by fomenting and projecting the innovation capacity. The relevance of this study is to illustrate the role of innovation in strategy formation with real cases of companies operating in Latin American countries. The main objective of this research is to compare the role of innovation in the strategy development process of two companies that operate in Brazil and Colombia. Doing this, it is possible to discover relations, trends, differences and/or similarities depending on the segment and means of action. This paper uses an exploratory and qualitative research with the intention to dig out and interpret the meaning of innovation in these two companies chosen as samples. As a result, it is identified that innovation is an important strategy to position, evolve, increment and/or differentiate the business of the companies involved in the study
