Resumo: | The aim of the present study is to offer data for a critical analysis of the changes that higher education in Brazil has gone through, mainly in the period that began in the 90´s, which was caused by a number of factors: economical, political and social. These factors are inherent to the growth of Brazilian society, in its own and different way of capitalist development, always subordinated to the determination of the great international capital. By analyzing this theme under the light of these factors, the study hereby aims at investigating the impact caused by the market changes (demands) in contemporary society in the identity of the confessional universities, with the advent of the accelerated process of mercantilization of knowledge. Thanks to this, the main aim is thus to analyze the counterpart between confessional universities – student – human education and companies – client – professional education. So as to account for these objectives, the approach of the present thesis will consist of a dialectical perspective, based on a conflict theory that identifies an interaction between structure and agent, in a context of dispute and negotiation. For this purpose, a comparative analysis between The Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul – PUCRS and The Estácio de Sá University – UNESA (Estácio Participações) shall provide us the data to analyze the features that differ the confessional universities from the mercantile ones. |
