The present dissertation discusses some aspects of psychology groups. The research was carried out within a group called “Clube da Amizade” , which is part of the Public Health network which serves the mental health area. This study is an attempt to understand “group processes” that enable the construction of this feeling of “belonging” towards the members of that group. 24 members of “Clube da Amizade” participated. The collected data were obtained through 3 “focal groups” and a “field work” diary. To analyse the findings, the Qualitative Textual Analysis was used. The resulsts show that the “group processes” responsible for the feeling of “ belonging” are: group organizers (rules – norms / wrong –right activities, roles, club membres, links with the institution, sickness – health), friendship attachment (divergencies, family, support/help, shared interests – identification, recognition) and the potential-space – place (a place for gathering, sharing companionship, amusement – entertainment, a place where anguish is lowered, a place for learning, a place for social joining up, an alternative way of treatment). Thus, we could understand that the feeling of “belonging” to the “Clube da Amizade” enables a better understanding of the attachment and it is partially formed by or through those group processes.
