Resumo:	This dissertation analyzes the writing of the Farroupilha in historiography and in novel, in a period of 158 years since the publications of Saturnino Oliveira Coutinho and Caldre e Fião in the 1840s until the works of Cesar Guazzelli and Flávio Aguiar in the late of twentieth century. In this study we intend to demonstrate, in light of the imaginary control concept, how in successive moments some social groups have oriented the ways of account that historical event establishing limits on the historiographical and fictional writings.
