Resumo:	Women and carnival: this is the topic this dissertation. Porto Alegre, around the last quarter of the nineteenth century, is undergoing a transformation with regard to their way of rendering praise to God Momo: arose carnival companies - Emeralda and Venezianos; until then the date was celebrated in the form of entrudo, in which women had active participation. Thus, this paper aims to examine the participation of women in carnival of Porto Alegre, from 1869 to 1885, pointing to the different places and conditions which they occupied in these celebrations.
