This dissertation examines the intellectual history of Jorge Salis Goulart in the 1920s. The approach adopted focuses on this character in their relational aspects with other agents of the intellectual and political field Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil. This text seeks to understand the objective conditions of an agent peripheral within the brazilian intellectual field who sought, through particular strategies in the entering the field and taken specific positions, generate and accumulate the symbolic capital that guaranteed him the recognition and prestige intellectual. Moreover, this work seeks to provide a panoramic view and, the same time, internal of formal and informal structures of intellectual field that was being formed in Rio Grande do Sul in the 1920s, in order to enable understanding of the disputes and the disciplinary constraints and intellectuals that imposed certain standards of legitimacy, and also, a specific agenda to be followed by “new” writers like Jorge Salis Goulart.
