Resumo: | The temporal distribution, habitat partition, reproduction and vocal activity in an anuran assemblage were studied from April 2005 to November 2006, at Fazenda Serra da Esperança, municipality of Lebon Régis, State of Santa Catarina. Objectives of the work were to verify the importance of pluviosity and temperature on temporal distribution of the species at the assemblage, analyze the habitat ocupation, offer an acoustic analysis of vocal repertoire of the species and to test the influence of air temperature, size and mass of vocalizing males on acoustic parameters. Thirty-two species were found at the study site, the largest amphibian richness found in the State. The taxonomic status of at least seven species is uncertain, which could represent undescribed taxa. Temperature had a strong influence on species temporal distribution. Number of vocalizing and reproducing males was related to variation in monthly mean, minimum and maximum temperature, what means that in the hottest months there are more species in vocal and reproductive activity. Fourteen species presented reproductive activity and nine reproductive modes were found in the assemblage. The comparison of vocalizations of 23 species of the assemblage with descriptions of vocalizations from other assemblages indicated differences on the calls which suggest the existence of undescribed species at the study site. Intraspecific variations in calls were related to size and mass of calling males and to air temperature. Variation in dominant frequency was related to mass and size of calling males and variation in note duration related to air temperature. The assemblage species richness presented strong biogeographic similarity with areas of Araucaria Forest from the States of Santa Catarina, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul. The presence of possible new species and of Pleurodema bibroni, which is classified as “near threatened”, reinforces the importance of conservation of this strongly degraded biome and points out our lack of knowledge about anurans from Santa Catarina State. |
