Resumo: | Introduction: A physical exercise based on the Pilates method for active senior citizens, which contributes to the continuation and improvement on the time taken to perform in daily activities in life. Objectives: The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of the Pilates method on the daily activities of women over 65 years of age after training them for 12 weeks. Also, the objective was to identify the change occurred on the time taken to perform the daily activities in their lives by comparing the time before and after 12 week Pilates training. Finally, the level of weekly physical activity was evaluated, comparing the level of exercise performed before and after the proposed training. Methods: This clinic, non-randomized study included 22 senior women, aging between 65 and 74. Trough prior information acquired in the Terceira Idade University´s database, located in Caxias do Sul University, admitted students in the Actualization and Acquisition of new knowledge class (UNTI-UCS) were invited to participate in this study, which made the sampling process convenient. The participants filled out a Clarified and Free Will Term and answered the International Physical Activity Questionarie – IPAQ, version 8, long format, usual week. They also performed on the Daily Life Activities Tests for Physically Independent Seniors – BATAVD, with the purpose of verifying the time taken to perform on Daily Life Activities. During the 12 week period the participants performed twice a week on specific exercises in the Pilates Method, with every session lasting fifty minutes. And, after this period, they once again filled out the questionnaire and performed on the group of tests. Results: Trough the use of IPAQ, the results show that, in the domains of physical activities in where the average calorie buned was measured, which were named Work, Transport and Leisure, did not show statiscally significant significant changes. Only in the Housework activities domain did the results show a significant difference before and after the Pilates Method training, with the prior training in every test applies, respectively: test “walk/run 800 meters” (622,86 – 536,70), p:< 0,001; test “sito n a chair, then stand up and walk around the house” (27,79 – 19,24), p:<0,001; test “go up the steps” (3,82 – 3,17), p: 0,007; test “go up the stairs” (7,17 – 5,70), test “getting up off the floor” (5,23 – 4,40), p: 0,001; test “manual abilities” (15,63 – 14,09), p: 0,004; and test “put socks on” (7,10 – 4,86), p: 0,004. Conclusions: The 12 week training base don the Pilates Method significantly influenced the performance time in Daily Life Activities for female seniors, measured by the BTAVDIFI, but therewas no change in the total level of physical activity measured by IPAQ version 8, long format, usual week. It just presented a significant difference on the domestic physical activities domain. |
