Resumo: This paper intends to present a proposal for the training of a literary reading mediator based on the results of an empiric research experience through Courses, having 25 librarian teachers from São Leopoldo, RS, as sample. The course School Library: from mediation to practice presented various themes in workshops, lectures, debates and study groups, aiming to sensitize librarian school teachers to rethink their practice. As research material, teachers’ writings and observations made along the courses, were used, and those allowed one to identify the following items, related to mediator: entrance profile, qualification and exit profile. From that on, the implications of this experience were analyzed, and the contribution of the Course for the professional performance of the group involved in the process was verified. The theoretical groundings for this paper and for the Course are related to Children literature genre and history, as well as to school environment, with highlights for the role of the reading mediator in readers’ training.
