Resumo: | This study uses Richard Johnson’s circuit of culture as a means to analyze the North- American sitcom Sex and the City, produced by HBO. The three moments of the circuit (production, text, reception) are analyzed, in order to present a critical cultural study and have a better understanding of issues concerning women and the media culture in modern society. The reception research was conducted exclusively with women who were fan of the show, and the objective of this articulation for the three moments of the process is to outline the representations of women presented on the show, investigate how the representations of femininity and masculinity on Sex and the City are assimilated, reproduced and/or defied by the female fans, as well as determine the extension to which the sitcom reconfigured, reinvented and/or reaffirmed a feminine identity. |
