A influência da gerência intermediária na performance organizacional: um estudo multisetorial em empresas de alta performance do Rio Grande do Sul

Resumo: The organizational environment is becoming more volatile, trade barriers are disappearing and the competition is growing strong. In such environments, the necessity for good managers is more important than ever. Managers of all levels - especially those intermediate - are constantly being remembered for its essential function and critical paper in the strategically influence that they exert on the performance and the organizational renewal. In this context, the objective of this dissertation is to analyze the influence of the middle management (MM) in the organizational performance. One field research was developed in two phases: the Preparatory Phase with 15 interviewed, being 5 HR managers of high performance’s companies, 5 academics and 5 headhunters, that it presents one construct validated on the attributes and papers of the manager that influence the GI’s performance; and the Final Phase that uses the study of multiple cases (3) to evaluate as the MM’s performance influences the organizational performance. The results demonstrate that the functions that affect the MM’s performance are: fast and assertive decisions, give the example and create challenging environments, pro-active attitudes and strategically discussion. As of that, appeared the functions that influence the organizational performance: management of teams, management of processes and focus in result. At the end, a relational space of middle management with the organizational performance is presented, called “Safe’s Secret”, which brings the explanations on relations between the dimensions, categories and functions inside of the enterprise environment.
