Resumo: The area of Medical Qualification in Life Support Training (emergency care) has been constantly improved. Currently, training is carried out using anatomical manikins which allow the execution of some common maneuvers of emergency care, such as cardiac arrest, intubation, venous puncture, among others. However, many problems have been identified in the training process, such as lack of realism on the exercises and engagement of students. The ARLIST project (Augmented Reality Environment for Life Support Training) was developed to support the emergency medical training in first aid, allowing students in a process training to have more interaction with the manikin simulation. To reach this goal, computational resources, such as sounds, images, were added in training courses, in order to create a more realistic environment for emergency medical care. A wide range of sounds can be played, from talks and groans of the patient to cardiac and pulmonary sounds. Images show facial expressions and lesions on the thorax over the body of an anatomical manikin. A software tool was developed to provide control over the simulation process to the instructor-medical and to register the students action in the training, too. The project was evaluated through sessions with Medical School academics. It was possible conclude that the simulations with the aggregate resources showed more realism than the currently environment in use. According to the instructors’ opinion, the main advantage observed during the tests was the improvement of the autonomous interaction between the trainee and the manikin. The project was adapted to be used in the medical-residency test of São Lucas Hospital - PUCRS.
