This work aims to propose ways to codify the Sensationalist Journalism genre. It was followed the methodological orientation of Deep Hermeneutics proposed by John B. Thompson and the Discourse Analysis of Medias by Patrick Charaudeau. Based on the bibliographic review of Brazilian authors, who dedicated to the Sensationalism Thematic, it was codified a table with 19 entries and the correspondent semantic meaning. Based on that, it was systematized into four categories to verify the level of sensationalization in the narratives of the 12 articles from six gaúcho´s newspapers that dedicated to journalistically cover the cases of Kliemann, Daudt and Eliseu. Due to the content of the crimes that were founded on these cases, we aim to examine until what point we can talk about sensationalist journalism along the history of the Sul-Rio-Grandense Press.
